Building Spaces
This document was created to conceptualize our future space based on living with engineers for two years. The construction company that executed the project told me in person that they took the project on explicitly because of this document and "how much thought had gone into it". Through the pandemic they worked to create an incredible space with impeccable fit and finish to match the integrity of the document. The Lesson: People can feel when care has gone into something.
Conversation Design
Created during the initial wave of conversation design in 2019 before AI entered the scene. Separately includes a canvas for designing conversations in a workshop. It was well received but early. With the quality of conversation and turn-taking AI agents now show, hand-crafted and designed conversations almost seem like a quaint idea. The Lesson: The first sign that software is not just eating the world but its creators too.
The Shifting Education Coffee-Table Book
The result of three years of work on introducing design-thinking into schools and colleges across the U.S. This coffee-table book shares a roadmap for anyone looking to create interventions for large systems like education, healthcare or even the government. The Lesson: how much power you have within the system matters. Are you an outsider depending on mutual self-interest or insider with authority to shift policy? You need both. For educators, take a look at the ClassLab website. Riverfield shifted how they teach in 2017 and has stayed shifted. Change is possible.
